If you’ve been watching side hustle content for months, quietly thinking “wait, could I actually do this?” - this post is your answer.

This is the most accessible way in (the subscription for this substack). This is the exact model I would follow if I was not currently in the position to invest in The Creator Current. If you are interested in skipping this system & shortcutting your way into Canvas UGC, I recommend applying to The Creator Current here.

You don’t need to be an influencer. You don’t need the greatest ring light, a niche, or 10,000 followers before you can make real money creating content. Canvas UGC flips the whole model. Instead of building your own audience, you create content directly on brand accounts and get paid for the views, not the fame.

Brands don’t need more influencers. They need content that actually performs. Every TikTok you scroll past, every Reel in your feed - someone made that. That someone could be you. And the ones getting paid the most are the ones whose content goes viral.

Wait… What even is Canvas UGC?

Canvas UGC is a content model where you create videos directly on brand accounts -- not your own. Instead of building a following and hoping brands notice you, you get hired to post on their TikTok or Instagram. They own the account. You make the content. And you get paid based on how it performs.

The brands using Canvas UGC creators right now are mostly apps -- for now. Think Bible BFF, Bloom, Minutes AI, Nomadable, Gamma, Source, Sprout. Finance apps, AI tools, wellness apps, productivity tools. These brands need a constant stream of content that feels native to the platform and actually gets views. That’s the job.

No followers required. No personal brand required. Just the ability to make content that performs.

No clients yet? No viral moment? Here’s where to actually start.

A lot of coaches will push you to create a portfolio without any training or experience. I think that’s dumb so I want you to gain some experience on a niched down Canvas UGC account. You’re not going to be promoting an app or website but Canvas UGC. The reason you’re creating an account on Canvas UGC, is one, to share something you are learning. Number two, inbound clients will find you this way too.

When you post about Canvas UGC, you build a following - and within that following will be other Canvas UGC creators, brands who are actively hiring, and people who know someone who is. You’re not just growing an audience. You’re growing the exact room where client opportunities live.

The new account you create for this journey is also your first portfolio piece. You’re not just posting - you’re demonstrating that you can advertise something on social media. That something is Canvas UGC. Or it could be anything you choose. But if you want inbound client pitches, posting about Canvas UGC is the move.

Here is exactly how I would build my first $5,000 with Canvas UGC from scratch, starting today, with no portfolio and no prior brand experience.

Step 01 — Stop Using Your Personal Account

This is the first mistake almost everyone makes. They try to build from their personal account with friends, family, and old classmates watching. That audience is not your target market. Brands don’t care how many followers you have. They care about how the content looks, how it performs, and whether it actually gets views.

So if you’re stuck in the 300 view jail on your personal account, you can thank your HS friends.

Start a fresh TikTok with one goal: learn how to make content that stops the scroll. Niche it down. Make this your Canvas UGC account, posting about side hustles and your journey into content creation. This way the account grows with you and you have something real to show brands.

The best part? You’re not performing for people who knew you in high school. You’re building something new, for an audience that actually cares what you’re posting because they found you by searching for exactly this kind of content.

Step 02 — Warm Up the Account Before You Post

Before you post a single video, you need to train the algorithm. TikTok classifies new accounts based on behavior - not content. If you post immediately without any warm-up activity, the algorithm has no idea who to show your videos to. Spend 24 to 48 hours acting like a real user first.

First 24 to 48 hours - no posting: Scroll your FYP for 15 to 20 minutes. Engage only with content in your niche - watch videos all the way through, like some, save a few, leave a few genuine comments. Do not engage with unrelated niches. This tells TikTok exactly what category to put your account in.

Set up your profile signals: Before posting, make sure you have a profile photo, a bio that describes your niche, and a username aligned with your content. TikTok uses profile information as classification signals alongside your behavior.
